Barrister Moshfeque M. Rizvi is a Partner (Development) of Legal Counsel. He has had an interesting upbringing and professional life, undertaking a variety of work both within and outside of the legal services arena. Born in Bangladesh, he has lived in Algeria and grew up in London, UK. He has attained an impeccable academic career both at school and university.
Coming from an entrepreneurial family, Barrister Rizvi is involved with business enterprises in Bangladesh and the UK in additional to his legal consulting work. This has allowed him to occupy a unique position of being able to render legal consulting services with the benefit of having direct industry and commercial experience for the benefit of our clients. His practice interest areas include the breadth of commercial, industrial and chancery matters, with specific interests in banking, insurance, capital markets, inward-investment and FDI, foreign incorporations including in the UK, UAE Free Zones and other offshore financial centres. He has expertise in large scale project finance, raising debt finance from international lenders and structuring private equity investments, coordinating investment banking teams, borrower due diligence and ensuring compliance of regulatory oversight. Barrister Rizvi is keen to promote bilateral commercial ties between UK and Bangladesh and assist on the legal side to allow a soft-landing for foreign organisations and businesses looking to enter Bangladesh.
Barrister Moshfeque M. Rizvi completed his GCSEs and A-Levels from the renowned and prestigious English private school, The City of London School with the highest grades, and was the Head of the Royal Naval Section of the School’s Combined Cadet Force having attained the highest Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) rank in the UK, Coxswain. He represented the School and London at table tennis and played in many national tournaments as well as he has won Best Player awards. He was also the Managing Director of a successful Young Enterprise company.
Barrister Rizvi went on to study Jurisprudence at Pembroke College, University of Oxford for his Undergraduate Degree and from there he graduated with First Class Honours having also obtained a Distinction in the First Public Examinations, Law Moderations. He won the College’s Farthing Prize in Constitutional Law and Monk Prize in Criminal Law. Barrister Rizvi continued at Pembroke College, University of Oxford to undertake the globally renowned Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) Degree, widely regarded as the best and most rigorous taught law masters degree in the world. He went on to complete his professional training by doing the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) at The Inns of Court School of Law, Institute of Law, City University, London and was Called to the Bar of England and Wales from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. He completed his First Six Pupillage at the Barristers’ Chambers of Mr. Martin Mann QC and Mr. Alan Steinfeld QC, 24 Old Buildings, Lincoln’s Inn, London.
Having returned to Bangladesh after his studies in 2005, Barrister Moshfeque M. Rizvi dived into the world of commerce head on, taking the helm of his family owned businesses, including being the Managing Director of Times Securities Ltd from 2005-2010, a leading stock brokerage firm being a Corporate Member of The Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd (DSE) and a Depository Participant of the Central Depository Bangladesh Ltd, itself a Member of the The Asia-Pacific Central Securities Depository Group. He was a member of the DSE Delegation to the UK and presented market overviews to the London Stock Exchange, Citigroup, Merrill Lynch, and the UK’s Financial Services Authority (FSA). He has presented a paper on emerging and frontier markets for the Masters in Law (LLM) class of Cardiff University, UK and as representing the DSE, he has completed a Marcus Evans Conference on Frontier Markets in Singapore.
Barrister Rizvi is a Sponsor Shareholder and an active former Director of Standard Bank Ltd, a leading private sector bank in Bangladesh with over 100 branches nationwide and exchange houses in major global cities, and was a Member of the Bank Board’s Audit Committee. Also, he is a founding Sponsor Shareholder and active former Director of Desh General Insurance Company Ltd, a leading general insurance firm dealing with automotive, marine and fire insurance and large-scale reinsurance in Bangladesh with a nationwide branch network as well.
In UK, Barrister Rizvi is the Advisor to financial institutions, Cadogan Asset Management Ltd and Lowndes Capital Ltd, both of which deal with capital markets, equities, and investment management and are fully regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). He is the Managing Director of Sphere Wealth Management Ltd, a firm set up to create multi-asset class wealth management solutions for High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) and Family Offices. He is a Director of Emerging Homes Ltd, a property consulting, estate agency and property management firm in central London. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Pathfinder, a digital entrepreneurship platform based in the UK.
Throughout his professional career, Barrister Rizvi has advised and counseled businesses and individuals on the legal aspects of their enterprises and has overlapped with the adjoining disciplines of strategic and management consulting and being a catalyst for large-scale industrial, commercial and financial project development and shall remain focused on these areas for the benefit of Legal Counsel’s clientele.
